»When my name plunges, when my identity vanishes, only then does the nameless place of poetry emerge.«
This spring, for the 25th time, 20TAL organizes Stockholm International Poetry Festival. We want to celebrate this with a festival focused on the essence of poetry: its roots in the invocation, in the vision, and in the ecstasy.
The immense potential of language is what infuses poetry with its creative power, and the poetry rewards us by exploring the limits of language more than any other art form.
Wether we talk about poetry as invocation, prediction or elucidation, it contributes to new insights about existence. The poem gives us the possibility to think beyond habit and exposes the world in a way that a language anchored in norms can rarely see. This gives poetry an inevitable actuality, despite the voices who try to convince us otherwise.
With Stockholm International Poetry Festival 2022 you will meet poets who in different manners uses poetry as exploration and prophesy, during two night focusing on the spirit of poetry and the spirit of the times. The program also entails seminars everything from mysticism and metaphysics to female prophetic poetry and its connection to ecstasy and hysteria.
Stockholm International Poetry Festival was founded in 1997 by 90TAL (now 20TAL), the magazine for contemporary literature, art and debate, with the purpose of introducing international literary impulses to Sweden by inviting innovative poets from all over the world. The festival was inaugurated at Elverket/Dramaten, one of the main theatre scenes in Stockholm, by Tomas Tranströmer. On stage, we gathered 25 Nordic poets such as Inger Christensen, Pia Tafdrup, Cecilie Løveid and Steinar Opstad. Since then, hundreds of poets from more than 40 languages has performed at the Poetry Festival, for example Jacques Robaud, Adonis, Benjamin Zephanaiah and many more.
